Sooke Fine Arts #2

This is the second of three pieces of mine that got accepted into Sooke Fine Arts Show. I am still in a bit of a daze about getting three pieces in!

This is a copper back plate that's been heated over and over and over to get pockets, hills, valleys and holes! The front is sterling silver, hand sawed by me. I love this piece (a lot!) and hope you do it!

Sooke Fine Arts Piece #1

I am really excited and honoured to have three piece accepted into the Sooke Fine Arts show. This is one of my boroscillicate pods capped with one of my beads caps and on a hand fused chain (made by me!).

The other two pieces that got accepted will be revealed over the next two days ......................
stay tuned!

2 x 3 exhibit

I got to see a picture of the collaborative piece going in the 2 x3 exhibit at the Facere Gallery in Seattle. I sent the beads and artist Micki Lippe (silversmith) did the piece. I was really excited about this exhibit, being a silversmith myself I was really curious to see what other artists did with glass beads. I really like the eclectic style of the piece. One piece goes to the gallery, and each artist gets a piece, hence the name 2 x 3 (two artists three pieces). I cannot wait to see the other work at the show, I'll be attending the show during my trip to the Gathering!

What's Inspiring Me?

I've joined a blog hop with the Jewelry Artisans Community. Our theme was "What's inspiring you now?".

I've been working in bright colours lately and that question made me sit down and think, "what IS inspiring me?". My garden is starting to bloom so that may have something to do with it. My large peony has already bloomed and my smaller one is just starting. My lupins are all bright splashes of colour, I planted them last year and have fell in love with them. I want a whole field full of them!

Along with my bright colours I've been doing a whole lot of cartoon or "fun" character theme'd beads. The Alice in Wonderland blog hop/challenge really got me thinking about different theme's to work in. The Mad Hatter bead set in my etsy is a fun one!

I have several friends who play Angry Birds and the characters are so much fun I decided to tackle a few of them.

So if I was to answer the question "What is inspiring you?" I'd have to say my gardens and a previous blog challenge.

Check out some of the other bloggers posts on this topic!

The pigeons are winning

Life around here has been pretty interesting on the horse front lately.

Last year in the fall we had a couple owls move in, which caused mayhem every morning early when they "hooted". For who knows what reason they are terrifying to my horses.

Fast forward to spring, and pigeons. Lots of them, moving in.

I guess pigeons sound like owls to horses? Apparently birds that "hoot" are killer beasts much like the plastic bag is the above cartoon.

Every evening at dinner time I've been trying to work with the horses to get them used to the noise. When I catch them to bring them in I usually wander by the pigeon roost and try to get the horses to hang out there.

Today was another epic fail. I did learn a few things.

1. My gelding while well behaved will NOT go to the pigeon roost. P.E.R.I.O.D. Trying to move a draft sized horse who's grown roots is not an easy task.

2. The 30 year old seasoned rodeo horse can and will exit the area faster than you can get out of the way. Especially when killer pigeons are flapping about over head.

3. Bogs are my favourite gumboots hands down BUT they do not have good traction for sprinting out of the way of above 30 yr old sprinting rodeo horse.

4. I am getting old, being hip checked by two horses in one evening calls for a large glass of alcohol.

Bangles in my etsy!

I've been adding my bangles to my Etsy shop! They go fantastic all stacked up in different colours. They also look pretty darn cute with a penny charm or two on them!

Alice in Wonderland Blog Hop

I had SO much fun with the blog hop/challenge. Staci Smith of Staci Louise Originals organized a Alice in Wonderland theme'd hop. It was so outside my comfort zone but I figured "why not?" and dove in. BOY did I have fun!

I had a ton of beads, ideas kept coming and coming, it was so fun to be whimsical and I guess my muse needed that.

The above pieces will be in the Glass Only show and Coast Collective the beginning of August.

I made so many beads, here's a sampler of them. Most of which are in my Etsy shop.

I have more ideas for different fairy tales and some cartoons. The ideas just keep coming!

I want to thank Staci for hosting such a fun challenge, it really is exactly what I needed right now.

Please check out the other artists blogs participating in the challenge/hop.

Madagascar

I have been having such a fun time with theme'd beads! I've been playing with ideas I had form the movie Madagascar and have some new beads in my etsy shop.

I've got ideas for Snow White, Angry Birds, Winnie the Pooh and more Alice in Wonderland!
